[00:00:08] Welcome to Keep Purring, a Carolina Panthers Podcast hosted by Ben Tucker and Eric Briggs, two lifelong Panthers fans from North Carolina. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a casual observer, this is the Panthers Podcast for you.

[00:00:23] Do us a favor, click on the link tree in our bio and give us a follow on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Now, let's get to the episode. What's going on everybody been in Eric here? Welcome in to Keep Purring, a Carolina Panthers Podcast. Episode 33.

[00:00:43] So glad to be back. It's been a few weeks since our last episode where we talked about, I think Panthers blueprint was our last episode a few weeks back. But training camp is here. Preseason. What is it? The week after next is our first game.

[00:01:00] Thursday is the first game of the NFL season. Preseason Thursday is the Hall of Endgame. Our first game, I think is Saturday. Okay. So it's like here. It's right around the corner. So yeah, we're getting back into swing of things.

[00:01:14] I have been in attendance for two of the three training camp practices so far. Eric and I both were there yesterday Saturday at back together Saturday. So tonight we're going to primarily be talking about that. We're going to talk about training camp observations so far.

[00:01:32] Expectations for the upcoming week. Well, we're looking forward to with training camp this week. But before we get into all that real quick.

[00:01:42] So we are currently on the March to a thousand subscribers, which is crazy to say, like I think you and I both agree when we started doing this. We didn't really have any expectations as to, you know, who would want to watch or listen to it.

[00:01:59] So the fact that we are where we are is crazy and that's cool. Yeah, it's cool. We're grateful for everybody who's chosen to subscribe.

[00:02:09] But we're trying to get to a thousand now and we're on the other side of 500, which is good, but just want to say if you listen to the audio version of the podcast.

[00:02:20] Where if you watch, excuse me, if you watch on YouTube, but you're not subscribed, we would greatly appreciate it. If you would just hit that button, it would mean a lot to us. It would help us out a lot.

[00:02:32] And if you hit the thumbs up too, I mean you guys everybody listening to this, you know how works, you know, the algorithm. When you like it's a problem. And both of them were free and they're free. But the things are free.

[00:02:44] And the last video I saw we had like almost 90% of our viewers were not subscribed, which is absolutely wild. 90% of our viewers. Yeah, congratulations that 10% of you who passed 90% of the all man. If only half of y'all would do it, it would help help us out.

[00:03:01] But yeah, we you know it's kind of crazy when we started talking about doing this. It was like, you know, we were talking about it anyway. We decided we might as well record it, just throw it out into the ether and see what happens.

[00:03:11] And we got a lot of people that want to jump on the ride with us. So love for love sharing it with everybody and super cool that we have people that actually want to watch and listen and engage.

[00:03:21] We've got a lot of engagement on our content as well. Always good to see people's opinions too. Yeah, it's great. Definitely definitely so how are you man like we said it's been a while. How are you doing? I'm slightly more sunburner than I was yesterday morning before practice.

[00:03:40] I thought it was going to be a little cloudier than anticipated and it was very nice out there. It came out. It popped out. It was it was in full force. I had my black that all black Brian Burns jersey on and all the choice.

[00:03:56] It was it was it was it was tough. I I bought a shirt in the team store and changed into it when I got to the car. It was it was a hot day hot morning for me. And then we stayed in extra hour for autographs.

[00:04:12] So we we didn't leave. We started walking out of Bank of American until noon. So it was a it was a longer day. But yeah, I'm a little bit a little bit sore a little bit sunburned.

[00:04:23] But overall ride the high from a great afternoon and a great trip down to Charlotte. Yeah, but you. Yeah, I'm good. It was a great time. We'll get into the technical difficulty. Technical difficulties there. Sorry about that. I just work professionals.

[00:04:50] Yeah, put my arm down and I knocked the cord out of the mic. So that's great. Super professional. Super professional. What was I saying? Yeah, so we'll we'll talk about the back together Saturday stuff. Getting the details of that here in a little bit.

[00:05:07] The first thing I just have a couple random kind of housekeeping things. I wanted to mention number one. I don't know if I feel like I sent it to you. Thursday from the training camp on Thursday. I took that video of took a video of Bryce Young doing

[00:05:29] sit ups after practice. Remember that? I remember that. Okay, so that video for whatever reason just absolutely took off on Twitter and TikTok and all these things where I posted it. And for me, so let me just set the stage because I keep forgetting like the

[00:05:53] people that are listening to this and watching this right now. You probably haven't seen this. If you want to see it, you can go to my Twitter page, which the my handle is down below and look it up.

[00:06:05] But so I was at training camp on Thursday and after practice had ended well after practice had ended, you know, fans were waiting to get autographs from players and the players were kind of slowly trickling out, you know, heading to the locker room, coaches, same thing.

[00:06:26] Media members were kind of slowly, you know, getting out of there. And it was, I don't know specifically, but it was a while after practice had ended. Bryce was over actually talking to his parents at one point at one point.

[00:06:40] Bryce Young's dad actually walked right past me and I was like, did like a triple take and I was like damn I should have said something. But he was, he was booking it as I didn't want to stop him.

[00:06:51] He was, he wanted to mention wherever he was going, he was trying to get there fast. Anyway, so well after practice, Bryce had been talking to his parents over on the field kind of chopping it up with them for a little bit.

[00:07:05] And it was still raining by the way, rain like the whole day. And so at one point, he Bryce kind of just jogged over to the other the far field. And he like sat down right in the middle of the field.

[00:07:22] He took off his shoes and started doing sit ups in the rain with a shoes off last player on the field. And important to note it was his birthday. That was to the third day was his birthday.

[00:07:37] So, but I'm like, oh, this seems like a moment that I should capture on film. What am I doing? Phone out and record it. So I did and it's like 20 25 second video posted it online.

[00:07:54] To me, I was like, Oh, he either A, this is his his normal routine than he does after practice. I don't know. This is the first time I've ever been to one of his practices or B.

[00:08:06] He was doing it as some weird form of like self punishment because he didn't have the greatest day. He didn't have the greatest practice ever, like he was a little up and down at times had some miss some throws, which I'll get into.

[00:08:21] So anyway, I, you know, not a huge deal. I just thought it was interesting. So I record it and man, it like I said, it kind of took off online. There's this there's this Twitter football Twitter account called ML football.

[00:08:35] And there's a lot of these like football news accounts on Twitter. They have like hundreds of thousands of followers and they, what they a lot of what they do is they kind of scour the internet for stories about certain players, about certain teams and reposted on their account.

[00:08:58] And then they'll tag the person that originally posted it. So they grabbed the video at one point. They tagged me thankfully. Thank you, which is how it's supposed to be done, which is how it's supposed to be done.

[00:09:08] They tagged me and that thing like again, like took, I think it has like five or six thousand likes or something on their on their page. But you'd be well, I was going to say you'd be surprised, maybe not.

[00:09:24] But it was so many people of course take the negative route. And say, oh, he's he knows the cameras are there. He's just doing it for the cameras. Like this is why doesn't he just go to the locker room?

[00:09:40] Why is he doing it out in the middle of the field? You can do sit outside. What is he doing? You know, I was like, I said first and I, if I would have responded to all of those comments,

[00:09:54] it would have, I wouldn't have been able to because it was too many. Yeah, I did respond to like two or three of them and I was like, you do know that this was well after practice it ended. Most of the media was already gone.

[00:10:04] All the players were pretty much back in the locker room. You know, that I don't pretty sure he wasn't doing this for the cameras. I think he was just doing it. Bryce doesn't strike me as the type of the type of person like personality wise

[00:10:18] that like plays things up for the camera. He's that's not his personality. Yeah, I mean, I had two thoughts. First of all, it really looked like somebody hired you as a PI for a jolted, ex lover type situation because it was from a long way away.

[00:10:35] I think it was a little bit. It was through a fence. It was, it was slightly creepy. I'm not going to lie to you. But excellent. Excellent. Yeah, pretty much. But it was like, but listen, I wasn't trying to be creepy.

[00:10:50] I just thought, and I found only, you know, you know, you got to work with what you got. But no, like my other thought was who the hell cares whether he's doing it for the cameras?

[00:11:03] I'm not trying to be funny, but I'd rather do sit up to the not, I guess. It was more of like you did it. I was like, hey, this was interesting. You know, he's engaged. He's doing this thing, you know, whatever.

[00:11:16] And then some people are just going to grab onto the negative and attach themselves to it. Of course. And of course, you know, as we know, and we have discussed a number of times on our show,

[00:11:26] people get very brave when there's a screen in the keyboard between them and other people. So, you know, hey, it is what it is as long take the content, whatever you want, just give credit. Like say whatever you want to say about the content, it's fine.

[00:11:42] Just if you're going to use it, just give the credit where it's due. But you know, like I don't know, I think people love to make a mountain out of a molehill and give in the opportunity. Some troll is going to do exactly that.

[00:11:54] And then especially, especially if it's something. Brice on because oh yeah, people loved it to shit on Bryson. It's a haters. You know, hey, what was that for? Right. Like, I mean, I just need that's why that's why I just need.

[00:12:12] I need him to ball out this year, man. Like I've said a lot of you got a lot of stock in this. I've said this before. Like there's outside of outside of the, you know, the continued health and happiness of my family and my friends.

[00:12:31] You know, the current, the, you know, political things that are happening right now in America. You know, those are those are that sort of at the top there with things that I'm honed in on things that I'm concerned about.

[00:12:48] Outside of those things, there's not many things that want more in life right now than a Bryson bounce back in year two. I need him to ball out because I need him to just shut people up. You just got just shut them up.

[00:13:00] Go out there and ball man. You got to do it for us. Yeah, it's good to do your thing. Good to do your thing. All right. So let's get into it. Let's talk about Thursday first. You didn't you weren't able to go Thursday.

[00:13:13] So I did, I was a little hesitant to go by myself, but I did. I was like, you know what? I'm going to do it. I'm going to go. I have to get one. You can go. I could do it. It'll be fine. I can socialize.

[00:13:25] I can meet people and it was cool because within like the first five minutes of me walking in, I saw CJ from two fans in the stands. Another Panthers great Panthers podcast. I was lucky enough to be able to go on their podcast.

[00:13:45] I believe that was last week. You were able to, you had a, I think you were out of town for work or something like that. But I immediately spotted him and I was like, Oh, CJ, what's up? So him and I started talking then Ricky Reigns walks in.

[00:14:01] If you guys, you guys listening to this or watching this, you may know who Ricky is. He has his own Panthers podcast as well called the BoBody show. He's also contributing writer for Cat Crave, the Cat Crave blog. So anyway, within like the first five minutes,

[00:14:18] I saw two people that I know and we started talking was great. I ended up sitting sitting with Ricky and his sister. But just some quick observations from Thursday. First of all, they spent some money on those facilities for training camp. It was impressive and it came together.

[00:14:41] It came together super quick is my understanding. But it's right in, you know, right outside of the stadium, the field is just beautiful grass, by the way, it's grass. So we can have grass. We can have grass on the practice field, but not on the field.

[00:14:57] I mean, it is beautiful to pristine. And then so on either side of the field are the seed is the seeding, the bleachers. And they have the kind of general public like general admission side. And then they have like the VIP like PS, it's PSL owners.

[00:15:20] And like family members of the players. So I'm lucky enough that I have a family member who is a PSL owner. So I was able to go sit in that section, which was great. And like I said, I saw Bryce Young's dad at one point.

[00:15:37] He was sitting over there. J.C. horns dad Joe horn and I fell legend Joe horn saw him. So just kind of crazy, just seeing it all over that. And anyway, but it's all covered. So it was pouring down rain like almost the entire practice.

[00:15:56] And it's all covered. So we were just sitting pretty up there, you know, sitting cushy underneath the underneath the awning there, watching them practice. And I'll start with Bryce. Bryce Young, he had a bit of an inconsistent day on Thursday.

[00:16:13] Definitely had some like a handful of wild throws. He had a throw to tear his Marshall Junior on the side. Had a TMJ sighting, which was cool to see because you know, he's trying. He's fighting for a roster spot at this point. Yeah.

[00:16:28] So Bryce had a beautiful pass to Marshall down the sideline. It was kind of a little bit of like a diving catch. Put it where only T and J could get it and he came down with it.

[00:16:40] So a few plays like that, but then on the flip side, starting in like they were doing like one on ones. So Bryce or Andy or Jack Plummer, whichever the quarterback would get the ball and it was one on one.

[00:16:56] So Xavier Lee get versus the Caprio brutal whoever it is. And Bryce, he threw like two or three, two or three in a row that just were kind of off the mark.

[00:17:09] Again, I don't like a lot of factors could impact that could have just been like the chemistry is not quite there yet with that particular receiver.

[00:17:18] But he was a little bit off there and then couple throws when they were started doing the team drills like seven on seven drills and 11 on 11. Just a couple throws where like throws that you would expect that he can normally make in his sleep that he just missed.

[00:17:36] So and you could tell he was visibly frustrated with himself because there was one to Steven Sullivan where Bryce clearly was expecting and this would look like just a miscommunication, but Bryce clearly was expecting Sullivan to

[00:17:50] continue his route into the inzone because the ball ended up landing like right in the back of the inzone, but Sullivan stopped at like the three arm line and like turned around.

[00:18:00] And so the ball just kind of sailed over his head and you look back at Bryce and he's like, he's frustrated, you know, he's visibly frustrated with himself.

[00:18:09] And that was after he had missed on two or three different throws. So just an up and down day and even after the practice Dave can now just mentioned he said, you know, Bryce was a little streaky today.

[00:18:22] And he's like, you know, that's not what we want obviously you want to be more consistent than that, but you know full full confidence that he's going to you know correct it and he'll come back tomorrow and see what he can do tomorrow.

[00:18:33] You know, you move on from it. You know, everybody has bad practices and now I wouldn't even say it was a bad day it just wasn't his best. Yeah. Exhaveny look at that dude is Jack. That man one usually closer to him on Thursday than we could.

[00:18:54] Yes, Jordan. Like you exactly I think you were able to have a much better appreciation of just the size of these humans then it was when you're up in the stands at Bank of America.

[00:19:05] Yes so especially like when they came to sign autographs like towards the at the end of practice Xavier.

[00:19:12] I think it was like, we get was one of those did that and man. I just like got I turned to the guy beside me. I think it was CJ that I mentioned earlier now just like him he is huge.

[00:19:24] Like he I get why there was the DK met calf comparison. Yeah, prior to the draft because he's he's not his tall like DK I think is six four. We get six one to six two somewhere in there I think so he's not his tall.

[00:19:42] But he he just built man he he's just he looks like a defensive end almost. Yeah, playing water seabers so that was impressive and he had he had one catch which I posted a video of it several people did.

[00:19:56] He was during one on one's Andy Dalton just kind of threw it up and he just absolutely lost.

[00:20:01] I saw that yeah, we get Jay look like he jumped about 10 feet in the air and Jackson just was holding on for dear life and it looked it looked like exactly what he did. We get at South Carolina in college.

[00:20:18] That's what it looked like so that was impressive. It was interesting it was really interesting to watch special teams they they were clearly practicing the new kickoff rule which I still don't fully I gained a little bit of a better understanding of how that's going to look.

[00:20:40] They kick off from the 35 your blind and then there's a row of defenders and right in front of them a row of offensive players of the receiving team. And they just have to stand still until the receiver catches the ball and then they go.

[00:20:58] It was wild to see it's very weird it is different a lot different. But I think it's one of those.

[00:21:07] I don't I haven't quite exactly under figured out like from a strategy standpoint like what you want to do like I've noticed that a lot of kickoffs what we were able to yesterday they were landing like on the one yard line.

[00:21:21] Right there were very there was very intentional that they were not going through the in zone they were not going into the in zone they were trying to get it as far back in the field of play. But actually forced the receiving team to receive the ball.

[00:21:34] So I don't know I'm very interested to see how it goes it does seem like it can be exciting. But it's definitely going to be better than the unending you know, litany of touchbacks that we typically seen.

[00:21:48] Yeah, that's brutal. I hate that like when eight times out of ten the kicker just kicks it through the in zone.

[00:21:55] Yeah, but what we didn't have to do it on purpose they did it on purpose like that was the entire point is to have fewer returns because they wanted fewer injuries and fewer CT things and whatever which I get but like.

[00:22:07] That's what it was the it was the unintended consequence maybe is that it made that made kickoffs pretty much useless.

[00:22:14] So I'm excited to see what the new what how the new what strategies kind of come out of this and see you know what what special teams coordinators are able to kind of cook up and what they're able to figure out and what parts of the rules are able to you know capitalize on and to I don't say exploit but.

[00:22:31] Yeah, but you know where where it's having to teach us for them to just try to jize I'm excited to see what that looks like because it's a brand new thing you don't get that very often.

[00:22:40] You know in the game and so I'm excited to see what this. Yeah, me too. And it's interesting. It looks like they had a few guys kind of wrote to think.

[00:22:53] I think obviously we're hean black chair who was I believe second NFL in return average last year so he's definitely going to be back there Xavier Lee get had some reps receiving.

[00:23:08] I think he's been doing a lot of things with him and he's been doing a lot of things. So we have like a trio of like pretty strong returners.

[00:23:18] Yeah, it'll be interesting to see kind of how they use them I'll be honest and I don't know you might disagree with me. But I kind of there's part of me that kind of. Doesn't want to see we get back there because this is a risk of injury.

[00:23:34] I think it's necessary. I got this since in the off season that analysis was putting him back there to kind of like make him pay his dues and to understand that like not everything is going to be just handed to him because he's the first round draft pick.

[00:23:47] And you know, like I think it really was like almost like Brian Burns last year didn't get to where didn't allow himself to wear those ears where zero until he felt like he had earned it type thing.

[00:23:57] I feel very much like canalysis isn't going to let you know ex come in there and just like be like a prima don't type, you know not having to work for some of that stuff like from some of the interviews I saw by canalysis and the off season.

[00:24:13] That was the impression that I came away from is not necessarily that he's going to be doing that all you know all season long he's going to be returning kicks all season long but almost like we're going to make him earn this in the off season improved us if he can contribute in a better way.

[00:24:27] And that's the level you know by being you know a higher on the widers here, we're dead charred and that kind of stuff. I don't know I can be wrong but that that's how that's the feeling I got as I heard them talk.

[00:24:40] No, I think that's a great point because I think analysis even said something about that. I think it was either after Thursday's practice or after yesterday's practice in his press conference. I think he was asked about.

[00:24:55] We all get and you know him taking snaps, him kind of sitting out on a number of the snaps with like the first team. And instead, like what we've seen a lot of times so far in the first couple practices,

[00:25:14] when they've had the first team out there with Bryce, the three receivers, the three main receivers, have been Deonte Johnson Adam Thielin Jonathan Mingo. That's not to say that once the season gets here, that we won't get more looks in that first team set.

[00:25:36] But can Alice kind of to your point, can Alice kind of said, you know, what these guys do, you know, give them the opportunity to kind of, you know, especially with the rookies to earn their spot. And I love that. I love that he's doing that.

[00:25:52] We get, hey, he's a first round pick, but hey, then you're still going to have to come out here and prove, you know, learn the ropes and prove yourself and it's not, it's not just going to be, you know, handed to you.

[00:26:04] So, you know, I think that, you know, talking specifically about like, the get in that position. I think of all the players of the stories that I know, he is the least likely to come in and take something for granted.

[00:26:19] In terms of, like it seems to be very much ingrained within him from what I've seen, a incredibly strong worth at work ethic. The man seems to have had to work for everything that he's achieved and nothing was given to him.

[00:26:34] In fact, he, you know, he achieved despite, you know, very tough circumstances, tougher than most of us can imagine. And so I have a zero question about his ability to come in and put his head down and say whatever you need coach,

[00:26:48] I got you and go do his thing and earn the respect that way. But I do think that I think that's probably just part of Canalis' mentality and him as a leader of like, hey, come in and earn the stuff. And I respect it. Me too.

[00:27:05] Dave Canalis said in his presser on Thursday that the Dante Johnson is a special mover and Bryce is having to learn that. And he is, I'm here to confirm. Seeing the Dante in person, that is 100% factual. That dude is quick.

[00:27:26] Like his feet, the way that he gets in and out of brakes, the way he runs his rouse man. It's special and I'll give you an example. They, at one point, the wider seabers were doing a drill.

[00:27:40] You've seen it before, so where they lay the ropes that kind of looks like a ladder on the ground and the receivers have to go in and out and in and out with their feet all the way up

[00:27:53] and they break out to the side and they catch past. So when they did this drill, Dante went first and it was just like beautiful. Just like, okay, that's how that's supposed to go. That's how it's supposed to go. Guess who they sent right after him?

[00:28:14] We get Adam Theland. And start difference? Yeah. That's the juxtaposition. The start difference man, I turned to, I was sitting with Ricky Reigns like I said earlier and I just turned to him after Adam Theland finished.

[00:28:36] And the next guy started, I just turned to Ricky and I went, that was kind of mean. It shouldn't have made him go after Dante. Listen, they're just showcasing what an upgrade we have.

[00:28:47] As you were talking about, and that was going to be my response back to you was to ask, so what you're saying is it's a bit of an upgrade over our number one of last year. But that's exciting to hear.

[00:28:56] That's exactly what we wanted here as we're sitting on the couch and we're not sure what all the work is. It's going on in the day and in day out basis. But you know, we've made a conscious effort on a lot of different fronts to improve the team.

[00:29:12] And it's always nice to have kind of confirmation that at least who knows how great they're going to be but they were definitely better than what we had before. And I think we're seeing that at a number of different positions of maybe not like monumental upgrades,

[00:29:27] but sizable and noticeable. And not really sure how many additional wins they're going to equate. But we look, we look better than I remember thinking that we looked at this bun. You certainly at some of the positions.

[00:29:44] You know, one of the things I want to talk about about Saturday was the offensive line play as well, which you know, we need to improve too.

[00:29:51] So it's nice to spend nice to see some improvements in some of those places that why do see for absolutely like was a necessity. It had absolutely had to have happened. So to see it actually kind of come to fruition is encouraging for sure.

[00:30:06] Well, to your point, so I mentioned earlier that last week. The boys over there are two fans and stands on their podcast. And one of the discussion questions that they asked was essentially how would you grade the offseason?

[00:30:24] Like, how do you think did Dan Morgan do a good enough job on the additions we made in the offseason? And my kind of in a nutshell, my take was, yeah, I think he did a pretty good job for the most important.

[00:30:40] We spent a shit ton of money on Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis on the offensive line. And we got criticized a little bit from national media like saying, we overpaid. Well, guess what? First of all, temper tax and worse team in the league tax.

[00:31:02] But also we had to do that. We had to bolster the offensive line because Bryce was not he was not going to he was sack 62 times and probably evaded 20 25 more. The offensive line was the number one thing that we had to improve, they went out and did it.

[00:31:24] And I thought that I'm not I'm not just trying to blow smoke here. I thought that the trade for deontage onson was like a masterclass because we were going to.

[00:31:37] But we were going to cut Dante Jackson yeah, it's one of those things where like I recognize where I'm out of my depth from a knowledge perspective and how in the world. That was able to happen and why the stealers even said okay.

[00:31:50] Yeah, I'm glad they did but you know, it's one of those deals works like man, we gave up a guy that just we were going to cut. And then we got a number one wider silver and return. Yeah, sure, what are we going with it?

[00:32:06] Yeah, I mean, I certainly don't I don't view deontage onson as like a top 10 or top 15. He's a one B. He's exactly.

[00:32:19] But he is like we've talked about had nauseam where he is elite is the route running. He's one of the best separators in the NFL so he can do that. He's a last basis. Exactly.

[00:32:31] So then and then you talk about just I don't want to get into a long discussion about it, but then you just talk about some of the additions that we made on defense that you know the familiarity with. Ever a system, Josie Jewel Jordan Fuller.

[00:32:47] Guys like that we brought over Dane Jackson from Buffalo to be the corner back to which still little iffy on that one will see how it works but anyway and then the draft I thought I thought that we had a pretty good draft.

[00:33:04] Like we talked about and so yeah, I thought we did about as well as we probably could have done. Considering our sort of the circumstances coming off of last year. Great. Yeah, great.

[00:33:19] Last thing on Thursday overall I felt I just felt the defense got the better of the offense on Thursday. Yeah. Like I said earlier offense did some good things. Bryce had a few really good throws and he Dalton had a couple good throws.

[00:33:36] But for the most part I felt the defense got the better of the offense. Getting in the backfield a little bit. Making Bryce have to kind of improvise get off that two seven or less timing the day for now is love to talk about and.

[00:33:51] But overall it was a good day I had a blast can't wait to go back I hope at some point before training camp ends that you can. The two of us can go go back. Yeah, so you can experience too.

[00:34:06] So yeah, we'll figure that out. But let's move to back together Saturday. That was a blast had fun. What were your just overall impressions of the day what stuck out what stuck out to you? What comes to mind. I don't know super cool.

[00:34:27] It was it was the first one that I've been able to go to. Yeah, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. You know we tried to go last year and got three quarters of the way down there until the before it was.

[00:34:40] It was a was a bummer. But this was it was really cool is a lot of fun. I haven't had the opportunity to see a lot of like NFL run practices. And so I really was intrigued by.

[00:34:57] We had it there was a clock running and you know every you know when the clock got down to 30 seconds. It was time to everybody to switch to the next thing and then like, you know that was one of the.

[00:35:07] One of the comments I remember can now is making a number of times is trying to get. He was talking about it specifically with the rookies when they came into camp but has talked about it with the wider team as well.

[00:35:18] Just getting them used to what practices supposed to be like and what what can I also expect out of practice and the effort that he expects. And you know all of that and just making sure that everybody understands what the expectations are.

[00:35:30] Yesterday after yesterday's practice he made a comment about he looked like everybody was was putting in the effort but we won't know until we checked the tapes.

[00:35:39] Right, and you know so I thought I was very intrigued by just to how the way that it ran and it's you know like.

[00:35:49] Nobody was a lollipaggan you know what I mean like you weren't you weren't having to wait on players to get where they were supposed to be the expectation was you with their quickly you did it.

[00:35:57] You know, they had to limit to the amount of time they had an hour and a half for that practice. They were done and they started at 930 they were done in 11 and you know they had to make sure that they maximized that hour and a half window because.

[00:36:10] There's rules in place about you know how long you can practice and you know how many of that stuff so. I thought it was really really neat I was I found myself because one of the things that.

[00:36:22] I am most interested in is the improvement in the offense obviously so I found myself as I was watching it.

[00:36:30] I was like looking at everything from an offensive point of view with in terms of like, oh man we don't look good you know this didn't look good as opposed to saying. The defense did a really good job of shutting that down.

[00:36:42] I know and in kind of like giving credit to the defense as opposed to rocking the offense we you and I've talked a little bit about that about like the glass half full glass half empty.

[00:36:52] You know how you choose to look at the situation in this instance we had our offense in our defense going against each other.

[00:36:59] Some one more someone less you know whatever but I just I don't know it was my first time seeing that it was my first time being that close to it.

[00:37:07] I thought it was really cool and while I loved watching the players I just loved watching the organization of it as well and then realizing wow there's a lot of people on that field.

[00:37:16] They all have to be in the right place at the right time and it's kind of like a cruise ship like you know people running down the dock at the cruise ship you know that they missed like they're not waiting right like you know that the practice is going to move forward and you need to be where you're going to be or they're just going to have somebody on the team that will.

[00:37:34] Anyway, there were just so many cool things about it that I hadn't got to experience. It's kind of hard to break them down but like it was it was neat and it was awesome for me.

[00:37:44] My girlfriend and sons was there as well and so it was great to be able to share that with them.

[00:37:50] You know my son might kind of just like lean in forward and paint attention to what was going on and being able to talk about different plays and players and point different things out. It was just great and I saw so many other families there.

[00:38:02] Moms, dads, kids you know like whatever combination of that it was it was awesome to watch and so cool to see.

[00:38:12] The the the the families on the field afterwards and I don't know I could keep talking about it would be real but like it was just great from an overall perspective.

[00:38:22] It was a wonderful day and I'm really I'm really glad that the Panthers give fans the opportunity to kind of come into do that and get close in the way that you're not really able to during the regular season.

[00:38:33] Yeah, it's great I had a great time to brought course my wife and my daughter. And it was a special day for me because I'd posted on Twitter. I was like. I said thank you thank you Panthers for back together Saturday where I was able to.

[00:38:53] Celebrate and enjoy. Really my three favorite things which are my wife my daughter and Panthers football all the same time and it's just cool because they. It was the Trinity for you is the the Holy Trinity right there.

[00:39:09] Yeah, but they got to experience it this was my my daughter's first time at the stadium first of many and she had a blast for about the first 45 minutes and then she was like that can we go home and I said absolutely.

[00:39:23] She was a super she's a rocker mom she's six right. And yeah, she was awesome. Yeah, yeah, she's great like when she was starting to get a little restless my wife took her out.

[00:39:36] They got their faces painted they went to the team store came back she was all energized 30 minutes later dad can we go home still know.

[00:39:47] How long is this last is this going to last all day no it's not going to last all day remember what told you it's only two hours it's only been an hour so stop asking love you. But other than that it was great what did you think.

[00:40:01] Bright to young let's start there where do you think about rice. And you know so harking back to what I just mentioned in terms of looking at it from an offensive perspective as opposed to just a team holistic perspective I came away slightly underwhelmed. In some ways.

[00:40:21] Again, I'm no expert but there looked there were some passes that look like they should have been completed now they're not well his fault will get into that some of that in just a minute.

[00:40:31] But was not a good read when he threw the interception that we saw it was.

[00:40:39] At least it wasn't it wasn't to me there were there were some good passes he does seem to have some connection kind of brewing with the wider severs and and kind of getting on the same page we saw some improvement with me go mentioned that as well.

[00:40:54] But yeah I like I originally my first thought was like a little bit underwhelming and then I realized hey. And he thinks is playing pretty well you know so like so he's going up against a pretty solid defense and we're not in while they're not hitting each other.

[00:41:09] Yeah the men are they're they're they're playing for roster spots a lot of them yeah and certainly the first teamers are playing for starting roles and so they're not out there you know half asking it right like there's not a lot of these practice are they're putting in full effort.

[00:41:26] And I kind of remind myself of that and recognize that there's all the entire offense is different. Yeah, literally all of the players are different and so there's still a lot of getting on the same page especially in game time like you know situations and circumstances so.

[00:41:46] It's me it was rather neutral there were some good stuff there were some things I didn't think was more particularly great but again you know I'm not a I'm not a critical QB you know coach or whatever I can just tell you what looks like from a fans on the sidelines that yeah.

[00:42:00] Me it was it was all right it was all right I was okay. What are you yeah yeah I was kind of the same yeah it was. I think. So kind of similar to Thursday.

[00:42:16] He had a few throws that he missed that it's like feel like that should have been yeah completely I didn't think there was any like.

[00:42:25] I agree just misses or anything like that the interception course happened now I will say as far as the interception actually I posted I have video of that and I posted it.

[00:42:41] I just waited where I kind of slowed it down so you could really see what happened there and. You know we don't know this is all speculation but when you really look at it.

[00:42:53] From our angle we were on this on the 50-yard line so we could see Jonathan Mingo was running right towards us. If you slow it down you see that. When Bryce was about to release the ball from the time he releases the ball.

[00:43:08] To the time that Dan Jackson intercepted it Jonathan Mingo had drifted like four yards upfield and on a lot not saying I don't know what the design of the play was I have no idea but but. When a lot of times when a receiver is running.

[00:43:28] An out route and I don't know if he was supposed to run a post it looked like that's what he was trying to do but seems like Bryce thought he should have been running. Straight towards the sideline and flattening out.

[00:43:40] I've learned some football lingo you're going to be impressed. Flattening that route out towards the sideline but that's not what Mingo did he kind of drifted up field which by the way he had an issue with last season.

[00:43:55] And right where Dan Jackson called it I think is where Bryce was expecting Mingo to be either way bad decision bad throw. Dan Jackson made a great play on it.

[00:44:08] Bryce threw the interception so that wasn't great and then you so but then you did see I liked it you saw immediately after that play Bryce jobs over to Mingo and they they chat for a minute and you could there's a lot of like hand movements of like yeah I was trying to go here and then this way and you kind of like through it and then this and.

[00:44:32] Dan Jackson and Bryce you know pat it on the back and walk away so that was it's not anything groundbreaking but that was cool to see like okay they're communicating they're trying to get on the same page.

[00:44:43] Dan Jackson and I just I made a mistake after an interception when we go over to my receiver and let's get on the same page you know make sure to have again. I thought that Bryce did have a few really good throws out there.

[00:45:01] So like I said a little bit up and down I will say this. One thing that I'm super excited about is Bryce's footwork there's been a lot of emphasis on his footwork and I feel like it's. Visibly better.

[00:45:19] I can say that with confidence now seeing in two days and two days in a row two practices in a row. His his base is a little bit wider more stable than it was last year. He doesn't have he's not doing that weird.

[00:45:36] Do you remember this last season where. He would. They would hike it he kept the ball and then he'd do this weird like back pedal at first it was like he would he would back pedal.

[00:45:49] For a few steps before he would even get set to throw and it just it just didn't look. Great if you remember when you and me and my brother went to the Texans game one of the things he said my brother said your brother.

[00:46:07] He's like he's like Bryce is drop at just seems a little like Lex a day like a little it seems a little bit too slow and relax like he needs to be more. E urgency to it and.

[00:46:24] It seems to me like now like it like let's say he's in shotgun or under center either way when he gets the when he when the snap goes off and he's coming back like he doesn't.

[00:46:36] He doesn't have that weird back pedal anymore it's like they snap the ball he catches it he almost instantly gets into his stance like he's ready to throw.

[00:46:47] And there were a couple good examples of that approach I posted a video of an eentomus red zone touchdown that Bryce through where. Like I said he just immediately gets into that stance and he's ready to throw any fires up all over the middle to Thomas touchdown so.

[00:47:05] There's some encouraging things there I will say one more thing about Bryce that I know a lot of fans are. Very eager and not so patiently waiting to see is some more deep balls from Bryce yeah we haven't seen that. Like at all in the first three practices.

[00:47:31] Now there could there could be a lot of reasons for that it could be a no one's open you know be something I thought about there's been a ton of emphasis from Dave canalus on get the ball out in two seven or less.

[00:47:48] And maybe the way that they're structuring their practices right now the way that they're running their offense maybe they're harping on that a lot maybe they're saying it Bryce we want you to to execute.

[00:48:02] The offense execute the plays how we have them designed and we want you to focus on trying to get the ball out in two seven or less so like maybe it's schematic maybe that's part of why he's not taking any deep shots but one of the things that he struggled with a little bit last year.

[00:48:21] Where it was the deep ball accuracy and and the lack of attempts so.

[00:48:27] We'll talk about it later, but that's something that has been lacking the first few practices here that for whatever reason and I know I would love to start I'd love to see even if it even if it gets intercepted or even if it's an incomplete like just attempt some you know like get throw it up let's say we really get.

[00:48:47] And so I'm not I'm not putting that all on Bryce it could be a combination of things but I like to see that move yeah that would it would be good but I think you know hey we're in baby step mode you know the mean like right now we're just baby step and we got a crawl before we can you know walk.

[00:49:10] And so I think that's kind of where we are I think we're I think we're crawling right now. But I did not come away discouraged let me say no I kind of what I can away relatively neutral with it upside.

[00:49:27] Yeah, I'd say him here Jonathan Mingo to me like I might say he was the MVP of the day he looked right yet I think you have three touchdowns three or four.

[00:49:39] Yeah he looked he looked really good like I know I'm trying to put my finger on it right because I was like.

[00:49:50] Why does this look so different like he was out like he was finding opening this and Bryce was finding him quarterback and they were just finding him. Yeah, he looked good he well very pleasantly surprised absolutely me too.

[00:50:12] I was not expecting that I mean Bryce he and Bryce had they do have it looks like they're building a bit more of a obviously they have a whole year under their belt but wasn't much of a connection to speak of last year.

[00:50:24] And they're kind of doing it on the same page.

[00:50:27] No, they didn't and but one thing that I latched onto a little bit was both Dave canal is in Bryce in press conferences last in the last few days said that Mingo is playing with more confidence and he's playing faster.

[00:50:44] So maybe the game is slowed down a little bit for Mingo he's playing with more confidence he's not like again he's an NFL wide receiver he's attacking confidence like he well no he's he's a talented football player like he knows how to play football.

[00:51:06] I just feel like the same way that we give Bryce young a lot of grace for last year.

[00:51:14] Let's give some the Jonathan Mingo to and hopefully he can put it all together this year, but he's got a he's got some like he's a physical he's got some physical tools what is he six he's he's almost similarly sized to we get in a way.

[00:51:32] And he's just like it. It doesn't feel the same yeah well they're not let me just clarify they are not the same player. They really get has a skill set that to me is a little particular set of skills very particular set of skills.

[00:51:51] We get to me has that that deep ball like jump ball 50 50 ball winner ability that's not really me and goes game he's more of like a power a big slot guy.

[00:52:05] But anyway Mingo MVP of back together Saturday I think we would agree yep we would great so excited to see what he does if he can keep that up moving forward I mean.

[00:52:20] If Mingo I mean seriously if Mingo came bounce back and look like a respectable wider receiver this season and we get is like our fourth best receiver. That's pretty that's that's a lot better than what we have last year.

[00:52:38] Yeah it was one of the things we were talking about while we were there yesterday and but some of that we're talking about it you and I were talking like all we were all talking about it.

[00:52:45] Yeah it was a lot of them I feel like and I feel like they're going to be better than than.

[00:52:57] I think they're going to be more expected and and TMJ Mingo they're going to be better than they were last year I don't think the one is got another year under him and.

[00:53:10] But I do think the one is not going to be because he's not going to be the main center of attention he's going to have more opportunities.

[00:53:15] But yeah I mean it's a good wide receiver really even can now so it's talking about that in his press conference was talking about what a good. Solid group of guys it is and how good they kind of are and it's almost.

[00:53:30] He didn't say this is my words but like almost an embarrassment of riches in not that we have hang on hang on listen let me call for it. All right fix face fix face. I got to control my face sorry fix that face.

[00:53:43] Very nice not that there's any one that's like you know going to dominate a game right like we don't have a wider server that's going to go out there and dominate a game but what we do have is a room of.

[00:53:57] Capable receivers the price can fucking throw the ball to like we just did I mean we but we didn't had it last year right not only do not have a guy that could take a game over we didn't even have a competent wide receiver room.

[00:54:13] That like that could do anything and I think now based off of some of the things that we're seeing is some of the growth that we've seen from a couple of the players that have been around like TMJ and Mingo they both looked.

[00:54:25] Pretty good. Yeah CMJ had a good day as well. Yeah we saw cocker cocker played really well. I assume was able to do some stuff like yeah like got guys that's what making plays and while again they're not going to be taking over games necessarily.

[00:54:42] They shouldn't be losing him for us either and I think that that's one of the things that we have to like keep in mind is like not an embarrassment of riches of we got three number one receivers but.

[00:54:51] But but Dan we can feel like a full wide receiver room and not feel like there's a massive week link in that chain and I think that that's something that we didn't experience last year.

[00:55:04] And it is comforting it's almost like we have a floor that is much higher than it was right like the safety net is there and I could be full of shit I don't know but like from just from what I've seen and the press conferences that I've been listening to and watched.

[00:55:19] I feel like we can not necessarily be like super excited but we don't have to dread passing downs. You know that and that's you make a great point because and you've the way you've just phrased it is perfect.

[00:55:37] Last season, I mean the first couple games we didn't really know what to expect but after we saw how bad things looked to the first couple games from that point forward in the season. It really was like dreadful to watch us try to pass the ball.

[00:55:54] We need to pick sexes and we couldn't run the ball this and it was either so like we just we just need a defensive play.

[00:56:03] It was so bad it was so dreadful to even watch and obviously Adam Fielin had a good statistical season and he did his thing he was. We had to force feed him because that's all we had.

[00:56:18] I liked DJ Characca and I wish that he would have worked out better here and again back to like we got to give people some grace for that situation last year. DJ Characca and he's with the chargers now.

[00:56:34] He's not really expect not because I think he's like you know some elite receiver but I fully expect him to look better this year with the chargers than he did with us last year. He absolutely will because he's not like a horrible receiver like he's a menifel receiver.

[00:56:55] He's had some success in the NFL and then Mingo was just like he just looked like a fish out of water.

[00:57:01] He looked well season and he had some flashes where he you know had some good catches had some good moments for sure but I mean we're talking he played he played all 17 games and didn't have a touchdown. The entire season.

[00:57:19] So I just I agree with you like I know I kind of like smirk in chuckle when a little bit when he said in very good wretches because I'm like whoa that's a pump the brakes there buddy.

[00:57:31] But I do I do agree with you. Yeah, I think it's we have our receiver room is much more serviceable now and like he said we don't have like a Justin Jefferson guide on our team it's going to take over a game.

[00:57:46] But Bryce definitely has more options and it's going to be exciting to see what are like who makes the 53 man roster because we know that. Dianta, feeling Mingo and Liett those four are absolute locks for the team.

[00:58:09] I think I personally think in mere Smith Marset is also a lock he I mean man he or I feel like here in the last year yeah I don't know I feel like at the end of the last year he earned it and he should a lot.

[00:58:20] Of opportunity for growth and for good things to happen so I would love for him to be on well and he further longest time last season like the only opportunities he was getting was returning points and he did a really good job with that and then when he finally got.

[00:58:37] I think it was the last three or four games I want to say where he finally was getting opportunities at receiver and they were doing you know jet sweet.

[00:58:47] Yeah, yeah why just water sea for screens and all that stuff and he looked damn good he we even said at the end of last season we were like I S M is our most exciting receiver right now.

[00:58:59] He was the most fun to watch for sure yeah so I and I I've seen some people on Twitter and the Twitter streets saying that I S M is is nothing more than a gadget guy and that he's just the you know.

[00:59:13] He's not like a full on receiver and I just disagree with that I think he can be a really good like third or fourth or fifth like option. And I think we're seeing we've been seeing in Miami you know and you know some of that's like.

[00:59:46] I think we need to have the we need to have players that can and he's one that they can but listen I was incredibly impressed with coca as well like I don't want us to just just gloss over that.

[00:59:59] He looked really good he has some really really good plays. We even said at one point like I think I got up and like came over to your seat and I was like hey did you see number 18 that's coca or did you see what he just did.

[01:00:12] He's like oh yeah watching the guy from Holy Cross oh yeah yeah he's. He looked good like he looked good.

[01:00:19] Yeah, I think he had two he had a touchdown in like seven on seven red zone drills I know he had a touchdown there he might have even had a touchdown in 11 on 11 from Andy Dalton I want to say because that.

[01:00:30] Yeah, I think when I went down to the corner with with my son yeah we got some like from row like you know plays like that and I think.

[01:00:39] Yeah and and then he had some I posted a clip again guys and gals whoever's watching listening just go to my Twitter at keep perring bin and I posted like. 27 clips from.

[01:00:54] Back together Saturday one of those clips was a one on one rip where jail and coca was matched up with the caprio brutal and.

[01:01:05] Butal tried to jam him like he tried to you know you can make contact within the first five yards put his hands on him right at immediately.

[01:01:13] He was playing right up on him and coca fought through it and then put a little move on and got very open like.

[01:01:22] Created some separation and Dalton actually threw it behind him but he still called it and I know it's just a one on one drill but I'm just saying he was very impressive and it's going to be.

[01:01:32] I know there's a lot of fans panthers fans rooting for coca to make the team because when we drafted or I'm sorry we didn't draft him when we picked him up after the draft sign in there were a lot of people saying like.

[01:01:48] It was a little bit surprising that he didn't get drafted and when you when I I had never even heard of them and so actually signed him I went on YouTube looked up his highlights and I was like oh shit this guy.

[01:02:00] He's a route runner like he can get open so. Back to the conversation about like which receivers are going to make the team we know the guys that are locks and then I think ISM is that number five guy so then you're talking. Terrier's Marshall Junior Jalen Coker.

[01:02:18] David Moore who's the veteran guy that came over that was with canalice and Tampa Bay and I think Seattle as well.

[01:02:28] So I don't know man are they going to keep seven receivers is that possible I know it's possible down I think I mean if you double up with like return man or something like that like maybe hey that's how the end of doing it.

[01:02:40] Yeah I don't know but you know again. It's it's not all like platinum you know like but we got some good players that are going to be certainly serviceable I think yeah I thought.

[01:02:56] I thought JC horn for the the times I know they I think that's all that they shut him down not because he was hurt but because they're trying to like put him on a pitch count sort of.

[01:03:07] I thought he looks good he's he showed a few guys down he had a couple of plays against the enta Johnson where he. He was able to deflect the pass or prevent Johnson from catching it. The thicker kicker what do you think of him?

[01:03:25] I loved it I took I took video of the thicker kickers kicks honey straight I didn't see him missed today. Yesterday he was he hit one from 50 to 55. Yeah like that look like what are we going to like 70 hit way up on the net.

[01:03:50] And I don't know I mean narrow I hope you know what you were doing dude because the thicker kicker is not doing any favors.

[01:04:01] And I was we were there to see Paneiro right they only they seems like they do like a ticker a day type thing they alternated looks like yeah like alternate days. But the dude had plenty of leg like leg for days and made all of them so.

[01:04:22] Do you see I'm a fan I'm a fan yeah I think it makes me feel better like I feel like I can be a thicker kicker. Like you played soccer so I mean.

[01:04:35] Yeah you know anyway I'm he did break he he did everything he was supposed to do which is what you want. I just do the same thing and just do it really well and he's seem to and he did it from far away what about you.

[01:04:51] Yeah I like to what I saw. We'll see I mean. Eddie P he's he's in relatively he's an accurate kicker but I think where he lacks is the leg strength you know. And I think.

[01:05:10] I don't know maybe some people have joked about or maybe not even jokingly said like what if we keep both of them. What if Eddie is like the 40 yards an in guy and then the thicker kicker is the six.

[01:05:24] Take an extra wide receiver we don't need to get. Hold on hold on let's talk about this so you'd rather keep seven wide receivers than two kickers how dare you to play shickers yeah I think I would. I think there's.

[01:05:46] We can move on but I think that there's legit like. Object justification for potentially keeping seven receivers based on our what we talked about with the guys that we have so we'll see but and then the only other thing oh you wanted to talk about the offensive why.

[01:06:02] Yeah I just wanted to to mention it being the number one priority that. So we had in the off season and. It was good to see some of the work happening I thought that for the most part the offensive line did a really good job of protecting price.

[01:06:19] You know in what they were asked to do for the for what we saw. But it was also good to I saw Corbett had an interview after. Practice yesterday. And.

[01:06:32] I know you want to make a big deal out of me being playing center but like yeah it's not a thing can you can you just stop asking me about. But it kind of is though.

[01:06:45] Yeah I know but it but like I think it's one of those deals where he it's not his first year in the in the NFL he's been playing football a long time. He was the backup center anyway I believe.

[01:06:59] And so like he knows what he's doing this is not a new thing he he's been around line calls for you know how are love however long he's been playing. Like.

[01:07:13] It's it's going to be okay and he was just like you know listen it's great we got it he we got Timo now we got you know the new interior offensive line.

[01:07:21] We just want to be able to push when we're told to push we want to protect over to protect and we want to keep the pocket you like you're saying hey we're going to go out there and do our thing but you could tell.

[01:07:32] He believes that they're in a better position than they were previously he did talk a little bit about last year being able to just kind of like sit back with Bryce and talk about offensive line issues because he wasn't you know he was injured and wasn't playing.

[01:07:47] And how that benefited them as kind of like kickstarting this year of being in kind of a new role but can now let's even mention how important it was for for for.

[01:07:59] Just as much as as Bryce in terms of them being on the same page and being in lockstep so. I just wanted to mention that because it was such a high you know a high priority force in the off season that it does look like the.

[01:08:14] Some of the adjustments and changes and signings and whatnot do seem to be paying off for the offensive line. Yeah, and then I also wanted to mention John to.

[01:08:26] Do do do do some bad drops like he he had some yesterday a couple of them that were just like. Why didn't I wasn't that a catch and and he was upset with himself he was he was doing the hand clap and thing and whatever.

[01:08:39] Yeah, but I will say that as a fan that was hoping to see more I came away slightly deflated just in terms of like he man we we need sure hands.

[01:08:52] Then that so it was just it was not what I expected to see quite frankly and so I think because of that it was a little bit jarring and just kind of jumped out of me.

[01:09:02] Did you have anything to say on either of those he didn't have a great day no.

[01:09:07] And again it's it's none of these guys are going to be perfect every day we know that it's the third practice right like it's just the third day training camp like we're not like in the like week four.

[01:09:19] Right we're just trying to read the two leaves here but it just wasn't as good as we'd hope.

[01:09:25] Yeah, it's I'm not I'm not concerned about the on today I mean I did I did notice that he was visibly frustrated on several occasions during the practice that he had that.

[01:09:36] He had to drop in the in zone where he's like he got wide open right on him and put it right on him and he dropped it and then.

[01:09:46] There was another play which I posted a clip of on Twitter is like and and the play resulted in a really nice throw from Bryce to Mingo. 20 25 yards down the sideline.

[01:10:01] But if you watched the video and I can send it to you and show you what I'm talking about at the bottom of the screen deante Johnson runs his route and.

[01:10:11] It doesn't really get that open like it was decent coverage by the corner and as soon as he turns around and sees that Bryce has already thrown the ball he like throws his hands up like.

[01:10:25] You know, like in frustration and like what the I like why are you throw it to me and then and then Mingo catches it and it would definitely would have been a first down and you know he just jogs back to the.

[01:10:34] I think they all get frustrated it's not they all the ball what was it wide receivers are open on every play.

[01:10:44] Every wide receiver is going to tell you that they're open on that play right like every single one of them is just a part of the position but it was just it's not I posted the clip not to like try and make a big deal out of it.

[01:10:54] I just making an observation like oh I noticed deante was visibly frustrated here and that wasn't like said that wasn't the only time but I think he was probably mainly frustrated with himself. You know because he had him he didn't have a great day.

[01:11:09] Yeah, he expect you know listen guys at this level they expect. Perfection is close at least as close as they can get it and you don't got you do not get to this level without.

[01:11:23] Trying to be a master of what you do and trying to be super particular and holding yourself to a very high standard pushing yourself when there's nobody else sort of push you and I think that you know he was just disappointed in.

[01:11:35] In this play and he's going to go out there and he's going to try to get better. And then the only other thing I'll say is offensive line wise. I've heard us all a couple people say this online on Twitter that it's it's harder.

[01:11:51] harder a little bit harder to block as an offensive lineman when you're not in pads and with that in mind I thought the offensive line I think they're doing a pretty good job right now especially that interior of the offensive line with Corbit and hunt and Lewis.

[01:12:13] And we that has to be the case that interior for especially for a short quarterback like Bryce you got to have. A wall you got to be able to build a wall in front of them so he has room to sit in the pocket.

[01:12:30] And I thought that they did a pretty good job. You know he had several several throws where he had plenty of time to get it out so I'll be interested to see.

[01:12:42] And then I think that's that's let's segue into the last part here of just like this upcoming week there's I think three or four I know fan fest is Thursday down in Clemson but there's I think four practices this week.

[01:12:59] So one of the things I'll be looking forward to. Is once we get the pads on they're going to get the pads on I think. I'll be interested to see how the offense functions with pads just paying attention to that paying attention to the protection.

[01:13:22] Paying attention to the two seven or less I'm continuing to kind of watch that like. Every clip that I see. Of Bryce I'm like how quick is he getting the ball out.

[01:13:34] And and when that play or when the play breaks down and you can't you know you go through your reads and nothing's there and you have to is you have to evade pressure and improvise.

[01:13:48] How is Bryce handling that and I think on several occasions he's done a good job that so far. And then the and then like we mentioned earlier.

[01:13:57] I want to see some deep belt some deep balls man I want to see some deep some deep balls I don't know why I'm having trouble saying that.

[01:14:04] But now just like we like we talked about I just I want to see Bryce I want to see him air it out a little bit yeah doesn't matter if it's intercepted or if it's.

[01:14:15] In complete like just give these guy let's get into the habit at some point of giving your guys an opportunity down the field.

[01:14:23] Now in order for that in order for those deep routes to develop the offensive line has to protect long enough for Bryce to be able to find those guys but I'm just really interested to see that. And then other than that there's just.

[01:14:43] As far as like position battles I don't know if you have any specific position battles that you're kind of paying attention to but.

[01:14:49] I won't go into wider silver again we talked about that but that is one that I'm very much honed in on like who's going to who's going to rise above who's going to break out mango. Is doing a fantastic job.

[01:15:03] Legate as he gets more comfortable and I'm like watching him extremely closely and then there's other guys the cocares of the world and the TMJs of the world like.

[01:15:14] You know are they going to continue to do well the coaches might they might have some like Dan Morgan and co might have some tough tough decisions to make there at wider silver so we'll see and then other than that. Ed rushers I'm.

[01:15:32] I'm very nervous about that somebody other than Jdavian clown he was going to need to to step up a Caleb on chase on we got from Jacksonville is a first round tick but hasn't been very good in NFL so far.

[01:15:48] I'm on and one of them hasn't even been on the field yet because he's still hurt and so that's that's a concern because he's supposed to be clown he's running mate and then the other guys are like a Mari Barno and echo echo Leo to.

[01:16:01] I'm going to have to go to the. I'm going to have to step up opposite clowning and then I'll just say corner back so. We know Jc horn is awesome. Wayne Jackson has had he said I'll say he's had a couple of impressive.

[01:16:23] Practices he's made some good plays. Who's the other guy out de Caprio brutal so Mike K with the Charlotte observer he pointed out that and he's he said this twice now I think.

[01:16:36] I think that's the other side of the presumptive top two guys with Jc horn and Dan Jackson. Of those other rotational guys to Caprio brutal so far. It's looking like the stand out guy that could change.

[01:16:56] But him and the Sean Jamison and Chal Smith Wade the or Shaw Smith Wade the rookie that we drafted I'm just interested to see how the corner back room.

[01:17:06] I think that's the one thing that we're going to do is to go to the side like us to go sign like us to find Gilmore who's still out there as we know.

[01:17:17] I have not super confident that that's going to end up happening I feel like if he really wanted to be in Carolina he probably would already be on the. Listen, I don't know. Yeah, I don't understand these veterans don't want to go to training camp.

[01:17:30] So yeah, I mean Gilmore he doesn't need training camp. He knows what he's doing he's been doing this a long time yeah he can get himself ready. I don't remember how many years he's been in the NFL but it's over a lot.

[01:17:45] I think but like he knows what he's doing and he could come in after the third second or third preseason game sign.

[01:17:53] And then within a week or two weeks be good to go you know what I mean he doesn't want to come in and do the whole training camp thing. I can almost guarantee it so I'm not worried about that.

[01:18:05] I'm interested in the corner back side of things as well that's something that I kind of have my eye on. Also just kind of the secondary in general with some with you know some of the safety changes as well so just kind of the secondary in general.

[01:18:19] And then you know. I'm interested in the Titan competition. I would like very interested to see kind of how all of that. How all of that goes.

[01:18:32] The Sanders factor in a trimble when he's able to get back on on the field had as that go like I just I'm interested to see kind of how the Titan side is and then the last thing I kind of had my eye on was more of a long term I is the running back situation.

[01:18:49] I have you know obviously true was going to be the dude Sanders did not lip it look particularly great yesterday black sure looked really good in some areas he literally ran away from the defense. I believe on one plate kind of towards the beginning of practice.

[01:19:07] So he looked really good and he also has gives us some flexibility in the return side. So just and then we obviously Jonathan Brooks is going to be coming back at some point and so we shine for shot penny so I just I think that.

[01:19:21] I'm interested to see how the running back room is going to. That was going to kind of shake out and where it's going to be like by like week four you know what I mean like where where does that end up going on.

[01:19:33] I'm not necessarily as much a preseason battles but as once we get into season.

[01:19:38] Who rises at the top so that's those are the things that I'm keeping my on but I'm mixed I've got you know I kind of had like what's your vibe check for the for the off seasons so far and the time you're talking about the year.

[01:19:50] And I'm feeling I'm feeling pretty good about things you know I think that whereas it is a fan base were. You know a little bit gun shy at saying and being positive about some stuff right we talked about that a little bit in general especially online.

[01:20:07] But I think it's okay to be cautiously optimistic based off of what we're seeing and I think it's okay to just think hey we're going to get five to six wins this year instead of two and we're going to be going on the right direction.

[01:20:20] Listen I grew with you we talked about this. Before we started recording. I am just a very glass half full.

[01:20:32] Optimistic person in general and I'm absolutely that way with my Panthers and I am cautious Lee optimistic I'm not going to go overboard with it will at some point we'll do our record predictions and I'm probably going to be conservative with that because I've made myself look like an idiot last year.

[01:20:55] I believe that one. Maybe you're going to be like we got. I don't know. We'll see but but I. We talked about this like I said before and I'm very much a prove me right. Guy as opposed to prove me wrong and I believe in Bryce.

[01:21:18] I really like Dave can now I think he was a great choice. I think he's going to be great for Bryce. I'm excited I'm cautiously excited about the team but I'm excited.

[01:21:31] And I think like for me the vibes are the vibes are pretty good like there's there's a couple position groups like I said that I'm really concerned about but and. I. I don't think our defense is going to be.

[01:21:47] Quite as good as it was last year I don't know we'll see. I think that I think that our offense there's no way our offense can be as bad as it was last year so that's possible.

[01:21:59] You can't clearly not write a number of players on the field and it'd be worse than it was it's a can convince them possible. Yeah me too. So vibes are pretty good. The vibes are pretty nice. We're in the same boat like hey yeah.

[01:22:16] I'm I'm not waiting for this guy to fall you know I think we're in good right. Any other. Closing thoughts as we've got like we said we've got a few training camp practices this week.

[01:22:31] You and I talked we're going to try to now that things are picking back up we're going to. Shoot for trying to do a weekly episode and let you know unless something comes up and we're not able to so we're planning on. That's how many years again.

[01:22:45] That's how you're again you know planning on being back. This time next week around this time next week to talk about week two of training camp but um any other. Closing thoughts or anything when you're in just good to be back doing it dude.

[01:23:01] Yeah for both seasons like here I'm telling you know fantasy. Well, I think it's like literally four days. So it's pretty wild. So yeah I'm excited about it. I'm looking forward to it's going to be back in the chair could be back chatting with you.

[01:23:18] Good to have some things to talk about seeing the excitement among the fan base seeing the angst among the fan base it's what NFL is all about. Looking forward to trying to do a little better fantasy this year and then.

[01:23:31] You know have have have a lot of fun with the season so great to be back looking forward to sharing it with everybody and can't see can't wait to see how it goes. Alright, well that is going to do it for us tonight.

[01:23:45] Thank you guys so much for listening. Thank you for watching. Thank you for your time your support all that good stuff. Don't forget to like don't forget to subscribe we will greatly appreciate that hit the bell icon all that stuff.

[01:24:00] And yeah we plan on being back again about a week from now talk about week two of training camp. Looking forward to that but until next time have a great week and keep pounding.
